Definition
Any musical instrument where the sound is produced or modifyed by electronic means (electrophone). The two basic types of electronic instruments are:
1. The sound is produced by means of an acoustical instrument such as the violin and then altered electronically (Electro-acoustic instrument).
2. The sound is produced electronically.
