Definition
- The placement of the left hand when performing on a stringed instrument.
- The placement of the slide when playing a trombone. There are seven positions on a typical trombone.;
- The position of a chord; the common positions are:
- root position: (fundamental position) when the lowest voiced note of a chord is the tonic of the chord.
- first inversion: when the third of the chord is the lowest voiced note of the chord.
- second inversion: when the fifth of the chord is the lowest voiced note of the chord.
