The art of using the bow with a bowed stringed instrument. The term also refers to the marks used to instruct the performer as to which direction the bow should be moved across the strings. The down-bow means that the bow-arm is moved away from the performer's body and the up-bow means that the bow-arm is moved toward the performer's body.
